CSR in 2010 - New partnerships and old friends
With a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, G4S was pleased to once again provide security for the annual Africa International Youth Tournament hosted in Sierra Leone in December 2010. The charity event, now in its second year, attracted teams from Norway, Brazil and Liberia and saw a large outpouring of local support for the hosting team FC Johansen. G4S continued to set new standards for events management in Sierra Leone, with UK-made anti-counterfeit ticketing, security staffing and skilled crowd management and was widely praised for the professional and efficient manned guarding at this 5-day event.
G4S was also proud to participate in the MEPS Trust Well Woman Clinic Walk for Life in October 2011. Funds raised from this event went towards supporting the opening of centres in the provinces where women will be screened for early detection of breast cancer. The turnout was impressive with G4S providing first aid kits, vehicles and administration support to this vibrant Sierra Leonean organization. G4S also participated in the annual MEPS Trust Luncheon in February, where their services were once again highly commended by the Board of Trustees. G4S has now been asked to elect a permanent member to join to MEPS Fundraising Committee in their regular events.
Hot on the heels of the success of these partnerships, G4S identified the need to become engaged in Sierra Leone’s most promising and as yet untapped industry: Tourism. Joining forces with Tommy’s Building Materials and the National Tourism Board, G4S organized a Beach Sweep on Christmas Eve in anticipation of the annual Christmas crowds. 100 volunteers from G4S, Tommy’s and the National Tourist Board worked from dawn until dusk to ensure that the beach would be at its best for the holiday. This event was also covered on the nightly news of the national television channel, Sierra Leone Broadcasting Services.
